For Birtin Works in Sheffield, our team at Creative Brick Solutions assisted CODA Architects and Crossbow Ventures with the choice of blended brickwork, creating an engaging facade. This distinct project was completed with work by Whitshaw Commercial as the principal contractor. Two different bespoke blends were supplied from Michelmersh Blockleys factory, and our team also assisted with design ideas for brick details on this project.
Located in Shalesmoor, Sheffield, the Birtin Works development is a £6.5 million residential project completed in August 2022. This transformation of a former industrial site into 63 one-bedroom apartments has revitalised this part of Sheffield, delivering much-needed and contemporary urban living space for the city.
The development features striking vertical brickwork around the entrance, contributing to the building’s strong architectural identity. A blend of different brick textures interacts with light, producing a lively, shimmering effect that enhances the facade’s vibrancy.
Birtin Works stands as part of a wider regeneration effort in Sheffield. The architectural vision of CODA, combined with Whitshaw Commercial’s delivery, ensured that this project met the development’s design aspirations. The use of varied brick finishes maintained the unique character of the area, while embracing modern construction, aligning with the goal of preserving Sheffield’s industrial heritage within a contemporary residential framework.
