Hollis Croft
Hollis Croft is a substantial project using brick slips on Ash and Lacy’s NaturAL-X cladding system to create a contemporary facade for a major student accommodation scheme in Sheffield. The use of brick slip panels creates a strong visual rhythm, giving the building a distinctive presence across the city skyline as the second-tallest building in Sheffield.
Located on a site bounded by Hollis Croft and Broad Lane in Sheffield city centre, the development was designed by Lewis and Hickey as a landmark student scheme formed of buildings rising from 10 to 27 storeys. The project was conceived as a high-quality student accommodation offering, with a facade designed to combine scale, texture, and a modern architectural identity.
This large-scale development was brought forward as part of the ongoing regeneration of Sheffield’s St Vincent’s Quarter. With its prominent height and contemporary material palette, Hollis Croft helps redefine this part of the city, using brick slip cladding to balance masonry with the efficiency and flexibility of a brick slip facade system.
Using Ash and Lacy’s NaturAL-X brick cladding system allowed the project team to achieve the appearance of natural brickwork within a lightweight, mechanically fixed solution suited to a high-rise application.
These carefully considered facade choices demonstrate how Hollis Croft brings together scale, material character and modern construction methods in one of Sheffield’s most prominent student developments.
