Southend

For our Southend-on-Sea project brick slips were used giving both a warm and earthy tone that enhances the building’s character and its durability. The Valencay brick slips are fired in a wood kiln which gives a natural finish. Fixed onto Wetherby Building Systems’ adhesively fixed brick slip system, this product was chosen to achieve the look of traditional brickwork with all the advantages of modern construction.

The use of purpose-made brick slips in a thinner, longer format allowed for the existing building to be overclad and updated with a contemporary feel, without adding excessive costs. At just 15mm thick, these slips reduced material waste and the project’s over all carbon impact, while maintaining the natural variation and texture found in traditional brickwork.

EWI Brick Slip Systems provides an energy-efficient and visually appealing facade; that seamlessly integrates with other materials in your building design. The lightweight nature of these systems simplifies this project’s installation process, enabling quicker construction and long-term performance.

Our Southend project demonstrates how contemporary cladding solutions can retain architectural authenticity while embracing modern building techniques. The combination of brick slips with Wetherby’s system successfully delivers a traditional finish with long-lasting durability.
